When God Gives You a Vision

At City Church, our vision is simple: Love People, Build Family, and Lead to Destiny.

We’re watching God bring that vision to life as we move forward together, one step of faith at a time. But vision isn’t only something God gives a church. He can give you vision for your life, your family, your future, and the purpose He has for you.

Has God ever placed something in your heart that you believed was from Him?

Maybe you could see it clearly. It gave you hope and purpose. You believed God was leading you toward something new.

But then you had to wait.

Days turned into months. Months may have even turned into years. And somewhere along the way, you started wondering, “God, did I hear You correctly? Why hasn’t this happened yet?”

The Bible gives us powerful encouragement for seasons like these:

“This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.”

— Habakkuk 2:3 NLT

God Gives Vision for the Future

Vision allows us to see beyond where we are right now.

When God gives you a vision, He may show you something that hasn’t happened yet. You may not understand every detail or know exactly how you’ll get there. That’s where faith comes in.

Habakkuk 2:3 reminds us that some visions are for a future time.

Just because you can’t see the promise today doesn’t mean God has forgotten it.

We often want immediate results, but God sees the entire picture. He knows what needs to happen before the vision becomes reality. He knows the people who need to be in place, the circumstances that need to change, and the work He wants to do in you along the way.

God’s timing isn’t careless. It’s purposeful.

Don’t Give Up Because It Takes Time

One of the hardest parts of carrying a vision is waiting for it.

We live in a world that celebrates instant results. We want immediate answers, opportunities, and breakthroughs. But many of the greatest things God does in our lives require patience.

Habakkuk says, “If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently.”

Notice that Scripture doesn’t say it will feel fast.

Sometimes it will seem slow. There may even be moments when it feels like nothing is happening.

But waiting doesn’t mean God isn’t working.

In fact, while you’re waiting for the vision, God may be preparing you for the vision.

Waiting can develop your character, strengthen your faith, deepen your relationship with Jesus, and teach you to depend on God instead of only depending on what you can see.

Vision Requires Faith

Vision and faith go together.

If you could see every step, know every detail, and control every outcome, you wouldn’t need much faith.

Faith says, “I don’t see the whole picture, but I trust the One who does.”

That kind of faith allows you to keep moving forward even when progress seems small.

You may not have the resources yet.

You may not have the opportunity yet.

You may not see the answer yet.

But you can still pray, prepare, serve, grow, and believe.

A delay doesn’t always mean a denial.

God Is Working While You Wait

One of the biggest mistakes we can make in a waiting season is assuming nothing is happening.

Think about a seed planted in the ground. For a while, the soil looks exactly the same. There’s no visible growth and no evidence that anything has changed.

But beneath the surface, something is happening.

Roots are forming. Growth has begun.

Eventually, what was hidden becomes visible.

Your season may feel like that right now.

You may not see the growth yet, but God can be working in ways you cannot see. The season you’re in today may be preparing you for the very thing you’ve been praying for.

Write the Vision and Take the Next Step

Earlier in Habakkuk 2, God tells the prophet to write the vision down.

There’s something powerful about clearly identifying what God has placed before you.

Write down the vision.

Pray over it.

Seek God for wisdom.

Then take the next step you can take today.

You don’t need to know every step that comes afterward. Sometimes God gives us enough light for the next step instead of showing us the entire journey.

Your responsibility isn’t to control the future. Your responsibility is to remain faithful today.

Don’t Let Delay Destroy Your Vision

Delay can create doubt.

When something takes longer than expected, discouragement can start whispering:

“Maybe it isn’t going to happen.”

“Maybe you misunderstood God.”

“Maybe you should give up.”

But Habakkuk gives us another perspective:

“It will surely take place.”

God’s faithfulness isn’t dependent on our ability to understand His schedule.

You may not know when.

You may not know how.

But you can know who you’re trusting.

Of course, not every personal dream is automatically God’s will. That’s why we continue seeking Him, praying, and allowing Scripture to guide us. But when God gives direction, we can trust Him with both the vision and the timing.

Your Circumstances Don’t Define Your Future

Maybe today you’re facing limitations.

Maybe you’re starting over.

Maybe your resources are small.

Maybe the opportunity hasn’t appeared.

Maybe the people around you don’t understand what God has placed in your heart.

Don’t allow today’s circumstances to convince you that tomorrow can’t be different.

Vision helps you look beyond the present. Faith gives you courage to keep moving. Patience allows you to trust God with the timing.

Trust God With the Timing

We often want God to fulfill the vision according to our schedule.

But God sees what we cannot.

He knows what needs to happen first. He knows what you need, what others need, and what will ultimately accomplish His purpose.

So don’t confuse waiting with abandonment.

Don’t confuse silence with absence.

And don’t automatically confuse delay with denial.

Sometimes God is simply asking you to trust Him a little longer.

Keep the Vision Before You

If God has placed a vision in your heart, don’t allow temporary circumstances to erase it.

Keep praying.

Keep preparing.

Keep serving.

Keep growing.

Keep believing.

Most importantly, keep your eyes on Jesus.

The vision may take longer than you expected. The path may look different than you imagined. There may be unexpected turns along the way.

But you don’t have to know everything about tomorrow to be faithful today.

Habakkuk reminds us that the vision has an appointed time. Even when it seems slow, wait patiently.

A Prayer for Vision and Patience

Father, thank You for giving me purpose and direction. When the vision seems slow in coming, help me wait patiently. Give me faith when I can’t see what You’re doing and wisdom to know the steps I should take. Give me courage to keep moving forward and help me trust Your timing when I’m tempted to become discouraged. Above everything else, keep my eyes fixed on Jesus and help me remain faithful in every season. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Keep the Faith

Your vision may not happen according to your timetable, but that doesn’t mean God has forgotten you.

While you wait, pray. Prepare. Grow. Believe.

And above all, trust God.

“If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.”

— Habakkuk 2:3 NLT

The vision may be for a future time, but God is with you in the waiting time.

Keep the vision. Keep the faith. Keep trusting God.

The best is yet to come!
