The Power of Faithful Friends: How Your Faith Can Lead Others to Jesus
Faith is often seen as a deeply personal journey—and it is. But Scripture also reminds us that faith is not only individual; it’s something that can be shared. Sometimes, it’s the faith of others that carries us to Jesus when we can’t make it there ourselves.
One of the most powerful examples of this is found in Mark 2:2–5, a story about friends whose determined faith changed a man’s life forever:
“Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, ‘My child, your sins are forgiven.’”
— Mark 2:2–5 (NLT)
1. Faith That Finds a Way
The crowd was so large that these friends couldn’t get through the door. But they didn’t give up. They climbed to the roof, dug through it, and lowered their friend right in front of Jesus.
That kind of faith isn’t passive—it’s persistent. They didn’t wait for the perfect moment. They created one.
How often do we stop short when things feel hard or inconvenient? These friends show us that real faith makes room where there is none. Faith doesn’t wait for ideal conditions—it acts boldly, even when obstacles stand in the way.
2. Faith That Fights for Others
Notice Jesus’ response: “Seeing their faith…”
It wasn’t just the paralyzed man’s faith—it was the collective faith of his friends.
This is incredible. It means your faith can move heaven on someone else’s behalf. Your prayers, your hope, your persistence—God sees it, and He honors it. These four men became a bridge between their friend’s brokenness and Jesus’ power.
Ask yourself: Who am I carrying to Jesus in faith? It might be a loved one who’s spiritually distant, a friend facing hardship, or someone whose hope feels paralyzed. Your faith could be the very thing that brings them to a breakthrough.
3. Breaking Through Barriers
The friends had to break through the roof—literally. It was messy, inconvenient, and probably expensive. But they didn’t care. Their friend’s healing mattered more.
Today, people still face barriers that keep them from Jesus: shame, guilt, doubt, fear. As friends, one of the best things we can do is help break down those walls. Sometimes it’s through a conversation, prayer, forgiveness, or simply showing up. Whatever it takes, we can help clear the way for someone to encounter Jesus.
4. The Blessing of Community Faith
This story reminds us that we’re not meant to follow Jesus alone. Faith grows stronger in community.
We all go through seasons when we feel paralyzed—mentally, spiritually, or emotionally. In those times, we need people who will push past the crowd and carry us to Jesus.
Do you have friends like that? More importantly—are you that kind of friend?
Your circle matters. Surround yourself with people who believe in God’s power, who will pray for you, who will carry you when your strength runs out. And be that person for someone else.
5. Faith That Leads to Forgiveness and Healing
Look at what Jesus does: He sees their faith and says to the man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Before physical healing, He offers spiritual healing.
This is the heart of God: to restore us completely, from the inside out.
Your faith on someone else’s behalf might be the very thing that leads them toward total transformation—body, soul, and spirit.
Living It Out
The story in Mark 2 shows us how powerful shared faith can be. When you carry someone to Jesus, even when they can’t get there themselves, you’re aligning your heart with God’s heart. And when God sees that kind of faith—walls fall, roofs break, and lives are forever changed.
Call to Action
Who do you need to carry to Jesus today? Think of a friend, family member, or even a co-worker who needs hope.
- Pray for them.
- Encourage them.
- Invite them into the presence of Jesus through your words and your love.
And if you feel like the paralyzed man—know this: God sees your need, and He also sees the faith of those around you. You are not forgotten. You are being carried to the One who heals.
God is with you,
PD
