Happy Birthday, USA

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, marking the colonies’ separation from Great Britain. This moment was the starting point of the United States of America, granting us individual and national freedom.

The ideals and beliefs within the Declaration of Independence are phenomenal and still desired by everyone today. Unfortunately, many people around the world do not have these freedoms.

In our history, we missed the mark on freedom with the practice of slavery. It took the Civil War to break its grip and set people free. We must remember that freedom came at the cost of wars, sacrifice, and bloodshed. The Revolutionary War and the Civil War are examples of the price paid for our freedom.

This is one reason why we honor all those who have served and currently serve in our military. Thank you for your service!

Freedom is not free; it has required great effort for our country to uphold the ideals laid out on July 4, 1776.

This parallels our spiritual freedom.

Jesus gave His life so we could be free. He died so we could live. He rose from the dead so that death would lose its sting. He became sin so we could be free from sin. He was whipped so we could be healed.

Jesus took our place so we could have freedom.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for He has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” – Luke 4:18-19

Freedom is a major part of what Jesus does in our lives, and it’s possible because of who He is and what He’s done for us. Today, we can be free!

The enemy has been defeated, and now we have a biblical Declaration of Independence that lays out who we are, what we can do, what God will do, and what will happen in the end. The Bible is God speaking to us, and in it, we find His will, His ways, His heart, and His promises for us.

When we receive what God is saying, we can have what He’s given—freedom! Freedom from fear, insecurity, mental torment, trauma, hate, addiction, religion, confusion, lust, greed, selfishness, division, hurt, and more. We can be free!

So today, Happy Birthday, USA. But also, happy freedom day for us through Jesus!

I encourage you to acknowledge an area you want freedom from. Ask Jesus to set you free from it. Seek support, accountability, and community, and move forward.

Jesus will come through for you!

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” – John 8:36
