Healthy Food: A Spiritual Perspective

Healthy food is defined as food that provides all the nutrients we need to maintain health, feel good, and have abundant energy. It is important to understand that this definition encompasses not just physical sustenance but also spiritual nourishment.

Living healthily should be more than a routine—it should be a lifestyle. I believe this aligns with God’s will for us: He desires that we live healthily through Him, benefiting not just ourselves but others as well. This concept is pivotal because through Jesus, we find healing and wholeness.

“O Lord, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!” – Jeremiah 17:14.

Isn’t this the ultimate goal for many of us? To embrace a life of health and salvation?

To realize this goal, we must choose to incorporate healthy food into our everyday lives. This principle applies both to our physical and our spiritual diets. After all, we are what we eat, and over time, our choices manifest in our lifestyles. Whether through our food or our faith, healthy choices lead to healthy living outcomes.

In this spiritual journey, Jesus is our nourishment.

“Jesus replied, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.'” – John 6:35.

The sustenance Jesus provides fulfills us completely, ensuring we are never left wanting. His nourishment impacts both our earthly existence and our eternal destiny, altering both realms profoundly.

Our role is simple: to accept this spiritual food and experience its richness.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!” – Psalms 34:8.

What does your spiritual diet look like?

Here’s what choosing “healthy food” looks like in a spiritual context:

  • We live to please God, not others.
  • We forgive ourselves and those who have wronged us.
  • We choose victory over victimhood.
  • We commit to generosity rather than selfishness.
  • We pursue continual personal improvement.
  • We engage with and support our local church community.
  • We release our past to secure our future.
  • We establish Jesus as the foundation of our lives.
  • We prioritize God’s Word in our daily decisions.
  • We worship and serve fervently, focusing on faith over sight.
  • We strive to make a difference in the world for Jesus.
  • We love our neighbors actively.

When we make these choices, our lives naturally reflect the health and wholeness we’ve embraced.

To foster this spiritual health daily, consider these two steps:

First, choose Jesus. Let Him guide your decisions, reactions, and behaviors each day. Start each morning by reaffirming His role as the leader of your life.

Second, choose His word. Allow the Scriptures, not the shifting opinions of the world, to be your ultimate guide. Whether you read, listen, or study, immerse yourself in the Bible and let it illuminate your path.

Jesus is our sustenance, our ‘healthy food.’ Let’s make choosing Him our way of life. Remember, Jesus is with you, and the best is indeed yet to come.

The best is yet to come!
