What’s your favorite food?
I love a great steak with a baked potato and a salad. For my city, I’ll eat this anytime at Yankos. That’s my spot.
Food is a big deal and for us in America, we can take it for granted. After all we can choose between Chick-fil-A or Cane’s. Pizza, sandwiches, vegan, vegetarian, Chinese, Greek and more. We’re blessed and it’s good for us to give God thanks for food. Not everyone in the world has these choices.
But our blessings are a challenge too.
THE DISCIPLINE OF EATING HEALTHY, EXERCISING, AND HAVING SELF CARE IS AN OBSTACLE FOR MANY OF US. HAVING THE RIGHT DIET IS AN ONGOING ASPECT OF OUR LIVES WE MUST MANAGE, BECAUSE IT’S BEEN SAID, WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. MEANING, THE RESULTS OF OUR HEALTH AND LIFE CAN BE LINKED TO OUR DIET.
Food is also a picture of spiritual truth that is massive for our lives. We are what we eat spiritually and the results of our lives in faith and more are linked to our diet.
What are you eating every day?
Is it TV shows, social media, gossip, video games, unclean jokes, sex, the news, or drama? There’s so much here because we’re bombarded with things to consume that don’t feed our faith, but rather starve it and leave us unfulfilled with sugar rushes of nonsense.
When this happens, we’re neglected in the nourishment we need for our faith to grow and thus helping us be holy, healthy, and happier. This is possible when we choose the diet God has for our lives.
What is this diet?
It found in his word. His word is bread that feeds our soul and heals our lives. This is what Jesus said.
“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:4
We need healthy food to live, we need heavens food to thrive!
The Bible reveals Jesus and Jesus is who we need and who we worship. In fact, he is the bread of heaven revealed and when we focus on him, everything in our lives gets better.
“Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6:35
Notice that through Jesus we will be fulfilled and never hungry again. Of course, this is not referencing our need for food, it’s referencing our soul and how he completes us.
Have you noticed that eating wrong foods and seeking comfort through them, is a result of our soul missing something?
What we’re missing is more of God. He satisfies, heals, makes us new, refreshes, restores, and fulfills us completely. The good news is that we can have this everyday through Jesus.
He’s ready to give us his bread, the question is, will we eat it?
So, here’s two ways to receive heavens food.
First, read the Bible daily.
When this is a rhythm in our lives, our faith will grow.
When we read the Bible, the Bible will read us. This is how we get clean, healthy, and become more like Jesus.
For me, I have a Bible plan that I follow daily, and this helps me stay focused in reading. When we have a plan, God will meet us there and we’ll be fed with heavens bread. The YouVersion app is great for Bible plans, having it read to you, and having themes to read about.
I encourage you to read the Bible daily. Furthermore, let it be the first thing you read. Let his word get in you and feed you. Let it become alive in you by receiving it personally. Move forward in your faith by taking the action of reading his word.
Now, there will be days you don’t feel like it and maybe you miss your reading but push through it. Overcome yourself and receive the bread of Jesus. It may not be what we always want, but it’s always what we need.
Get a plan and go for it!
Second, talk to Jesus daily.
TALKING TO JESUS IS PRAYING. IT’S SIMPLY TALKING TO OUR SAVIOR. PRAYER IS A CONVERSATION WE HAVE WITH GOD AND IT’S UNLOADING OUR BURDENS AND RECEIVING HIS ANSWER. IT’S GIVING HIM OUR STRUGGLES AND RECEIVING HIS STRENGTH. IT’S GIVING HIM OUR PROBLEMS AND RECEIVING HIS SOLUTION. IT’S GIVING HIM OUR LIMITATIONS AND RECEIVING HIS POSSIBILITIES.
Prayer changes us and we receive from God.
Prayer works!
Our part is to do it and not quit. Just like eating right, exercising, getting in shape, or losing weight, it takes time and consistency. It’s not going to happen with one meal or in one day, it’s over a period of time.
Same thing with prayer. God can do sudden miracles, but I’ve learned over time, it’s consistency in prayer that gives the fruits we need.
This is for the development of our person and his answer. It’s helping us be fulfilled so that we never hunger again for fake stuff that leaves us incomplete.
I encourage you to talk to Jesus daily. Find a place and make it holy. This can be your shower, your car, your closet, your kitchen or wherever. Just begin and don’t quit. God is moving more than think, see, and feel.
So, get ready and eat the food of heaven! The best is yet to come!
