Growth is Good and Big is Not Bad
If we want to reach our full potential we have to grow.
What dreams do you have? What goals do you have?
No matter your answer, to achieve it requires growth to get it. The good news is, God wants us to grow and He will help us do it as we walk with Him. This is just one reason why growth is good and big is not bad.
Jabez knew this and prayed for it. From this prayer God answered Him and caused Him to grow. This is a example of what God can do and will do in our lives.
“He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.”
1 Chronicles 4:10.
Growth brings us to places of health in our attitudes, outlooks, and behaviors. We must remember that God is concerned about our character, being refined through His word, and for our lives to reflect His love. No one starts at this place, but we all can get to it as we grow through Him.
When we grow we’re reaching for higher places of function which demands our inner self change.
This concerns our marriage, parenting, friendships, money management, work production, physical and mental health, and more. When we grow through Jesus, we’re getting healthier because it’s impossible to grow and stay unhealthy. When we grow, we will get better and healthier.
“6. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. 7. They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.”
Psalms 84:6-7
Growth is good and big is not bad.
When we grow, God is making us bigger. This is good because when we get bigger we’re growing past our tendencies and moving toward greater potential.
I believe we must choose to be bigger than ourselves verses being better than others. Our lives will be far greater in success and fulfillment when we do this. It’s not about being better than others, it’s about being bigger than ourselves.
This means I grow through my fears, setbacks, trauma, hurts, habits, hang ups, disappointments, and weaknesses. When we grow through these and get bigger we’re overcoming our biggest obstacle, US!
“A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.”
Proverbs 25:28
Many times we’re tempted to focus on others, to evaluate what they are doing wrong as a mechanism to avoid being honest with ourselves.
But if we’re going to grow and get bigger, we must start with us.
So, are you getting bigger?
What areas of your life are the Holy Spirit reaching to heal and mend?
All of us need this; therefore, all of us must reach for it.
The choice is ours, and God will NOT force us to do it. To achieve our full potential and to be what God has called us to be, we must believe that growth is good and big is not bad.
So today, choose to be bigger in that argument. Be bigger in that tension at work. Be bigger and serve your spouse. Be bigger and say sorry first. Be bigger in parenting that teenager. Be bigger in that family drama. Be bigger in your thoughts. Be bigger in your attitude. Be bigger in your conversations and be bigger in your faith.
Watch what happens when you take the lead by doing these things. I believe peace, unity, healing, honesty and open talking will follow. Go for it, God is in it!
This time is now and God has great things for you.
So reach for Him and say yes! This is where we can grow and this is where we get bigger!
God is with you and the best is yet to come,
PD
