Make Room

Have you had Chick-fil-A’s iced tea and lemonade drink?

It’s incredible and addicting. There’s something about it that pulls you back for more. If you haven’t tried it, go ahead, you’ll see.

In getting this drink, I’ve learned one thing: to ask for light ice. This is because if I don’t, they load the cup full of ice, taking away room for more of the drink. I figured out a way to make room for more.

But this blog isn’t about Chick-fil-A’s drink options; it’s about us and our connection to God.

The truth is, like that cup full of ice, it’s easy for us to be full of ice which makes us full of things besides GOD. This is the generational roller coaster humanity finds itself on as we seek purpose, healing, life, and more through everything besides God.

Then we realize we’re empty and need our maker to find redemption.

Life is not fulfilling when we are full of ice in life. We are fulfilled when we are emptied of those things and filled with God.

“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”

John‬ ‭3‬:‭30‬

This is what we really want and this is what we need. Jesus!

He never changes, and He never forsakes us. He’s a constant in our lives. However, the ice of life melts, shifts, changes, moves, and leaves us empty.

What is the ice of life?

It can be unforgiveness, vanity, anger, depression, lust, shame, guilt, unbelief, entitlement, addiction, abuse, selfishness, pride, stubbornness, pretending, greed, petty, anxiety, hate, and more.

These are things that fill us up and take over our lives. When this happens, we are full but empty. We are reaching for something but never getting it. We are walking but not sure where we’re going.

This is not how we were made to live. This is why we must make room!

The ice of life has to be replaced with the Holy Spirit. What He gives us lasts and endures through the ups and downs of life. What He does produces life change from the inside out; when that happens, everything in our lives can improve.

This is we all need more of Jesus daily. The ice of life comes to everyone, so to get it removed, we need Jesus, and to be fulfilled, we need Jesus.

Are you full of ice today?

Another way to ask this is, what’s taking the place of God in your life?

I encourage you to make this year different. Make room and be full of Jesus.

Here’s how.

Prayer and fasting. There’s something about setting aside the things we want that removes the ice from our lives and makes room for more of Jesus.

From January 11th-31st, we are doing 21 days of prayer and fasting as a church. This is a great moment to start the year with focus by setting something aside and having more of God.

This sets the tone for the year and it sets the trajectory of our faith to receive what God wants to do. Jesus is ready to move greatly, the question is, are we making room for Him to fill us?

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” ‬

Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20

The reality is, many marriages are filled with  the ice of unforgiveness and selfishness. Many of our kids are filled with ice of insecurity and peer pressure. Many churches are filled with ice of distractions, pride and selfishness. Many of our hearts are filled with ice of disappointment and pain.

So, the time is now to make room for Jesus!

When He shows up, things change, we change, our lives change and the things around us change.

Let’s not live to be full. Let’s live to be FULFILLED!

Make room and join us as we pray and fast!

God is with us and the best is yet to come,

PD
