Money a Heart Issue
Why is money such a big deal?
It’s crazy to think how much power money can have over us. It can dictate our mode, actions, attitudes and even our connection to God.
Far too often money determines our worth as a person and the value we have in life. This of course, is totally wrong and short sided and quite frankly, shallow.
However, there’s something about money that gets into our heart and controls so much of what we do.
The primary reason for this is our sinful nature.
Out of our heart comes wrong things like selfishness, greed and being discontent.
For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
Mark 7:21-23
It’s from our sinful nature that money can bring out wrong stuff.
But there’s good news! Jesus can change our heart and make us new. This is the remedy for our lives and the healing of our hearts. This is where we have purpose beyond money and furthermore, where money serves us as a tool and not a god.
This is where life has clarity with money and where we can have a plan with legacy.
Here’s the secret, when we let God have our heart, He will change our lives. When we give God what He asks of our money, He can bless us with more.
Money was never intended to be our god or the driving force of our lives. It’s to be a tool we use for good. In fact, money is to serve us.
But how do we do this?
We let Jesus in our heart and touch the money issue.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.”
Psalms 51:10
Notice, God has to create in us a clean heart because by our nature we don’t have one. When it comes to money, God wants to be number one and when He is, money will be in its proper place in our lives. It’s not the center of our lives but rather a part of our lives that God will do good things through us.
It’s my belief that consistent giving of tithes and offerings and being a part of a local church, is a way we continually let God create in us a clean heart.
This has to be ongoing because we have a daily choice between life and death. The heart must be consistently changed by God, to be renewed by God.
When people choose to argue about if giving tithes and offerings is right or wrong, I always feel they’re missing the main point. It’s about the heart of giving and being willing to let God have our hearts, period. We are not called to make points, we’re called to make a difference. Furthermore, we’re called have humble hearts, tender hearts and clean hearts.
So, how are you doing with money, a heart issue?
I encourage you, let God have your heart. Let God have this area of your heart and see what He can do. Please don’t settle for the surface arguments and debating while missing the whole point of, letting God change us from the inside out. He wants to bless us with resources and the ability to navigate those resources with the right perspective.
Reach for Jesus because He’s reaching for you.
God bless you and may He move in your heart about money!
The best is yet to come,
PD
