God Over Money
Money is a fascinating thing. It’s paper with power and the effects it has on people is profound.
It can bring out the best in us or the worst, and sometimes in the same moment. It can change who we are and reveal who we are. It can also be a tool that is used to do great things.
Money is not good or bad by itself, it’s what we do with it that determines that. In fact, too many times we hear a scripture quoted wrong saying, “money is the root of all evil.” It actually says,
“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.”
1 Timothy 6:10
Notice the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
When we love money over God, we got problems. When we love God over money, we have blessings!!
This is why Jesus talked more about money than heaven or hell. Because it’s about the heart, and if God can’t get to our heart, He’s blocked from saving us, healing us, using us and more.
But, when He does get to our heart, we’re changed, we’re tender, we’re healed, we’re humble, we’re willing and we’re blessed.
This is what God wants and this is what we want too.
Our part is to decide, that in our lives it will be, God over money!
Meaning, we let go of the excuses as to why we won’t give to God’s work, and we let go of the distrust, the greed, the fear and the way of our culture. We choose to say yes and see what God can do.
But the reason why this is a battle is because within us, there’s a power struggle of who will be in charge, God or money. This is what Jesus said,
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.”
Matthew 6:24
When God is our master, money serves us. When money is our master, we are enslaved to it. We are under its control which determines our motives, our actions and our attitude.
Remember, when we love money over God, we got problems. When we love God over money, we have blessings!
This is why giving tithes and offerings and giving to heart for the house, is a big deal.
In giving God does something in us, through us, for us and at the same time, blesses others. The act of giving is spiritual and it’s worship.
Conversely, the act of greed does something in us, through us, against us and at the same time, hinders blessings from others.
Notice the difference!
We make a living by what we earn. We leave a legacy by what we give.
So, is God over your money?
I know this is a personal question but the answer will determine so much. God is not after your money, God is after you. Money is a tool that He uses for His work to expand and grow. But you are the one He died for so He could save you.
He wants you and He wants to bless you more than you know. Therefore, when we participate in giving, God opens the windows of heaven and blesses us beyond what we can receive (Malachi 3:10).
So today, take a step toward God in giving and see what He does. After all, we know what money can do in our hand. Let’s see what money can do in God’s hand.
“The world of the generous gets larger and larger; the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.”
Proverbs 11:24
God is with you and the best is yet to come,
