God, knees and money
Have you noticed, when a man proposes to his fiancé, he’s on a knee? It’s interesting to me the posture that is worldwide in asking a lady to be a wife.
This speaks to respect, love, serving and humility toward her. It’s endearing and proper, as she’s asked to join his life and take his name, forever!
I remember when I asked Sumer to marry me. It was in the house I had bought to prepare for our lives together. I had this plan set out and she had no idea.
Through the trail of rose petals, I was in this room waiting. When she came in, she started screaming as I was on my knee with the ring in my hand. What was funny about it, is when I started talking, my voice was cracking and shaking from the nerves. I could hardly ask, “will you marry me?” with strength. But, she said yes and marrying her is the second best decision of my life. The first, receiving Jesus! My life is better because of Sumer and I’m so thankful for her.
But this blog is not about my proposal, but rather it’s about a principle that is connected to God, our knees and our money.
The posture of being on our knees is one of submission and humility to God. Just like it is when a man asks a lady to be his wife. It’s speaks to serving, care, love and endearing themselves to the other.
So much of our faith has to do with the posture of our heart and when we are on our knees, there’s something that connects our heart to a place of surrender to God. But have you noticed the challenge of this when it comes to money and God? It seems like we can easily get on our knees for all the other areas of our life, but when it comes to money we can easily pull back and resist.
But today, God wants us to make Him LORD of our lives and have money serve us. We are not to be enslaved to money but rather money is to be our servant.
However, this is easier said than done.
With all the pressure of materialism that comes our way, we have to be intentional to keep God number one and everything else following His ways. Money is an arbitrary object that can either be good or bad, depending on the hand that has it. Our job is to worship God with all of our heart, and to use the resources He gives us for good. Therefore, to move forward in this reality, our posture must be on our knees before
Him.
I believe this is a continual place to be in our faith. It’s where we let God mold us and shape us the way He wants us to be as we yield to His ways.
“I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”
Psalm 40:8
Notice what the writer is saying for you and I. We can take joy in doing the will of God because His word is in our heart. So, when we’re on our knees before Him, our heart filled that posture. This is where we’re empowered to say yes. To give to God and to make Him LORD over our lives and furthermore, over our money.
Today, there’s a connection between God, knees and money and what we do with this, impacts so much of our lives.
I encourage you, have a posture of being on your knees before God in every area of your life including, your money. God wants to bless you but more importantly God wants you! Our heart follows the investment of our treasure; therefore, making Him our treasure, helps our heart be even more invested into Him.
I believe God has some great things for you and this is our moment to yield to Him, believing that the best is yet to come.
Have a great week and may God do all He has planned for you!
