God and my Money
There’s something about our money, that triggers us like nothing else. Our senses go to new levels and our desire to protect it, is intense, and rightfully so.
We work hard for our income and it’s very personal to who we are. There’s no getting around this. If you think about it, money is on our mind a lot and some days that’s good and other days, that’s bad.
It’s intriguing to me how money can bring out a variety of our attitudes, some for better and some for worse. Furthermore, how we think about God and our money is on another level all together.
Have you noticed this?
There’s a lot of reasons for this because, there’s a lot of different teachings from the Bible on this subject. Then you add the thought of, the church is out to get my money and you have huge tension with God and money.
Some give the impression, it’s wrong to have a lot of money and that we shouldn’t go after it. Others give the impression, the more money you have, the greater faith you have.
It’s my belief these extremes are wrong and yet there’s a balance in between that we need to live in.
First, God wants us to make Him number one. He wants our lives to be in order and that starts with Him being our number one priority.
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33
Notice, we can have a second, third and fourth, it’s just that, Jesus must be number one. This is a massive challenge but when our priorities are right, the other parts in our lives will be healthy. Not perfect, but healthy.
Second, God will bless us naturally for us to enjoy. This is biblical.
“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.”
1 Timothy 6:17
Notice, he doesn’t say it’s wrong to be rich. What is wrong is when we’re full of pride and make life about money. He wants to us trust Him because He gives us richly all we need to enjoy.
So God is not against money, because it’s a tool that can be used to do good and enlarge His kingdom on the earth.
So what is God and my money about?
It’s about us, opening our heart to God in this area and letting Him be Lord of it. Meaning, we step through ourselves and give to God. We do this by giving our money to our local church through tithes and offerings. When we do this, the Bible says that, Jesus receives what we give Him (see Hebrews 7:8). So spiritually, God sees and receives our giving. Then naturally, the church is charged to be a good steward and do good with the resources that they have. When this happens, God is seen through the generosity and graciousness of His people.
This also means that, God cares about our money and He wants us to do good with it. We know this because He delights in every detail of our lives (see Psalms 37:23). When we know He cares about our finances, we then can believe He wants to bless our finances.
Why? So that we can bless our families, give to His church on the earth, leave an inheritance to our family and do good with what we have.
We open our hearts to this, we can come to peace with God and my money!
Is your heart open to God and your money?
Whatever your answer, let God have this part of you. Because when we trust God, God can trust us and bless us to be a blessing.
So take one step forward. God will honor each step you take and when you do, expect a blessing to come your way.
God is with you and the best is yet to come!
