is This the End?

Is this the end?

With all that’s happened in the last year and a half, this is a question many people are asking. After all, has anyone seen anything like this? I know I haven’t and here we are, still navigating so much on a plethora of levels.

The end of the world fascinates all types of people including Hollywood. In the last fifteen years, there are over eighty five movies that have been on this subject. A lot of money has been made while promoting the end of the world.

People are intrigued by the idea of the world ending as this subject transcends faith and politics. The common belief is, the world is going to end; therefore, this belief is growing by the day.

But this didn’t originate in Hollywood. No, this is truth from the Word of God. In fact, it’s my belief that Hollywood and famous authors have capitalized on what the Bible says is going to happen. This idea of the world ending is from God, period. It’s His love and grace that has given us an insight into what is next and furthermore, how to be saved through Jesus.

There’s no doubt that Jesus is coming back as so many things the Bible says, are proving true right now. Things are lining up for His coming and for the fulfillment of what He said.

This in itself is exciting because we are getting closer to seeing Him face to face and to be with those who have gone on before us. There’s a great reunion coming, where the saints of God will be together and most all, we’ll be with Jesus.

This is not a fairytale or a Disney movie idea, it’s the promise of God to His people. God sent Jesus the first time to save us. He’s going to send Jesus a second time to bring us home to heaven. This is the promise we have in Him, eternal life (see John 3:26).

So what do we do now?

This is an important question because there’s so many distractions happening. From COVID-19, to politics, international crisis, conspiracy theories and social media, we’re navigating crazy stuff on a daily basis. Furthermore, it’s easy for us to get engulfed in these things, which can lead us away from our purpose and forget what God wants to do in our lives.

Therefore, keeping the main thing is vital in this moment. This is what Jesus was emphasizing before He ascended back to heaven. In Acts chapter one, the disciples were still wanting Jesus to establish a Jewish nation and state, and thus freeing them from Rome’s rule. But Jesus lifted them beyond a political agenda and gave them a purpose that would impact eternity.

“6. So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking Him, “Lord, has the time come for You to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” 7. He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:6-8

‭‭Notice how Jesus didn’t engage in the conversation of a political agenda and went right to their purpose. He tells them that the Holy Spirit will empower them to be a witness or a sign for others to see Jesus through them. They were to do this in Israel and to the world. With this command, Jesus was empowering them to be a part of something bigger than one Nation or people group. This was for the world and it would impact eternity in the process.

Today, Jesus is saying the same thing to us. We may be asking about our nation or about the signs of His coming. But at end of the day, He wants us to be a witness for Him. This is because the only thing we take to heaven with us is people.

That’s right!

How we treat others, how we love others and our focus on others, can lift us to a heavenly purpose that makes life worth living.

So I encourage you today, lift your eyes to heaven because Jesus is coming soon. And while you wait, determine to be a witness. Determine to keep the main thing the main thing and make a difference for eternity. Let the Holy Spirit fill you with purpose and redemption. Let Him heal you, make you whole and do wonders through you.

Is this the end?

I believe we’re closer now than ever before. So I encourage you, don’t engage in drama but rather be a witness and let Jesus reach people through you.

Have a great day and the best is yet to come,

PD
