Promises

I remember as a kid, people would pinky swear when they promised something. This was their way of saying, I’m serious and I will keep my promise.

Did you ever pinky swear?

Funny how you look back and remember these type of things. But what’s interesting is, as children we realize the power of a promise and we were trying to fortify it this way.

Promises are a big part of our lives. We make them at the altar when we get married. We make them as parents to our kids. We make them in both professional and personal settings, as they help build bridges of trust to those around us. When promises are kept, great things happen. When they’re broken, upheaval happens.

This speaks to how important promises are because we intuitively know this as kids and live it out as adults. Just think about it, we can’t live life without making a promise to someone. It’s a part of us in what we do and in who we are.

This connects to God because He can’t be God and not make promises to us!

Did you know there are over seven thousand promises in the Bible for us?

These promises touch every area of our lives and what’s amazing, He fulfills them all!

God never makes empty promises. He gives them to fulfill them and to show us His goodness and His divinity. He alone is God and no one else can boost of who He is and what He can do. His promises show us His character, His plan and His power in our lives. In fact, He went past a pinky swear and took our place on the cross. He died and was raised again to life and reigns in our lives both now and forever.

Furthermore, He is coming through on every promise He’s given to us!

Notice what the Bible says about His promises.

“He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

Psalms 91:4

“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.”

2 Corinthians 1:20

‭‭These are powerful because His promises are a yes for us! They also are our armor and protection.

Think about this, His promises protect us and they are a yes for us! This is huge when you think of the expectation of our lives. It changes the trajectory of what we expect and how we think about our tomorrow.

What are you expecting from God?

These are not empty promises and wishful thinking. No, they are truth because they come from God and He is willing to fulfill all of them in our lives. Our part is to believe and through faith, reach for them to happen in our lifetime.

So how do we do this?

First, we must believe that His promises are for us. When we read Psalms 23 or 91, we receive these truths for our lives right now. We read the Bible, we must read it with expectation that God can and will do it today. This is huge because if we believe His promises are for us, then we will expect them to be fulfilled in us. Conversely, if I don’t believe them or don’t know them, how can I have faith to receive them?

This is why I encourage you to read the scripture daily and believe that, God’s Word is speaking to you and it’s for you!

Second, we pray these promises over our lives. For me, I pray Psalms 91 daily over me and my family. I both listen to it and read it through my Bible app. This is a way I’m getting the Word of God down in my soul. When it’s down in my soul, it forms my belief of what God will do in my life.

So many times we put things in our souls that are fear based and full of lack. When this happens, we’re driven by fear and worry. But, if we put God’s promises in our soul, peace and faith will lead us through life. One has torment and the other has peace and we all want peace!!

So today, I encourage you to find a few psalms that speak to you and begin listening to them daily. Then begin to read along while you hear it and let it get in you. Watch your expectation change based on what is in your heart.

This is big because He’s ready to fulfill all of His promises in you!

The best is yet to come!

Have a great week,

PD
