Recently I was at my son’s basketball tournament, hoping my son would do his best and that the team would win. The good thing is, both of these things happened and our team won the tournament; however, something else happened during those three games.
I got fired up, to the point, I got into it with the ref and he threatened to have me removed. Thankfully, the leader of the event felt that was too much from the ref and I was able to stay. But, I got fired up about it and created a tense moment for me and my son. After the last game, I went up to the ref and apologized because even though I felt he was over the top, I had a responsibility in it and needed to make it right.
Yeah, please pray for me, God is still working on me!!
But as I thought about it, of course I got fired up because that is my son and I want what’s best for him. I’m invested in his life and so, these games can fire me up.
I wonder, what fires you up?
Because the truth is, we get fired up about something and when we do, it drives us past ourselves. The passion, desire, sacrifice and effort, are evident as we’re motivated for something more. This could be sports, money, a hobby, a person, a dream and so much more, but all of us have something that fires us up.
The question is, are we fired up about God like we are other things?
This is where we can evaluate our priorities because, our number one should be Jesus! Meaning, our passion, desire, sacrifice, and effort are all out for Him. We’re all in and we leave nothing behind. After all, He’s the giver of eternal life and everything we are, and everything we need, and everything we can do is through Him! He’s the completion of our souls and the healer of our lives. He’s the answer for the world and furthermore, He’s the answer for us too. There’s no problem He can’t solve and there’s nothing He can’t do so, at the end of the day, we are to be fired most about Him!
But isn’t this hard?
It is because it’s so easy to be fired up about everything but God. But this is a tactic from the enemy, as he seeks to make it weird being fired up for God and normal to be fired up about everything else. In fact, it’s easy for people to give their all to other things and they don’t care how they look doing it. But then, get timid to step out for God.
However, there’s a way for us to overcome this and it starts in our own hearts.
Jeremiah said it this way in chapter 29:11-14.
“11. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12. In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
Notice, He has good things for us, which is His part. Our part is to seek Him with ALL our heart! Then, we will find Him!! He’s done His part, now it’s our turn to do our part. This is why I ask you, “What fires you up?” Because our answer, often reveals where our heart and passion are.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with having passions and desires for things. In fact, we need these in our lives because it’s a part of our growth experience in life, and it reflects God’s gifts within us. However, these things can’t be our number one passion. That’s reserved for Jesus!
When we are aligned with the right priorities, everything in our lives can be in order and be blessed. When we are most passionate about God, our values will show themselves in the health of our lives. This is BIG because what we really want and what we really need, is found in Jesus! So, when we clean out the clutter, we see clearly and then, we can be fired up about Him, over everything else.
I’m praying this over me almost daily, John 3:30 says,
“I must decrease. And He must increase.”
My prayer for you, is that out of all things that fire you up, Jesus fires you up the most!
Begin today by seeking Him. Run after Him with all of your heart and let nothing stop you. Begin to align your greatest passion for Him and in doing so, give Him a chance to work in your life!!
I believe you can do it and with Jesus, all things are possible!
