Half-Baked

Have you ever eaten something that was half-baked? If so, I bet you remember it because the meal was ruined.

Who wants to eat something half-baked? Nothing about this scenario is appealing and no one has an appetite for it. But what’s interesting about this, is God doesn’t like half-baked stuff either.

When it comes to people, God desires that we are fully baked for Him by completely being consumed in His love.

This speaks of being filled with passion for Jesus and prioritizing Him as number one in our lives. I think it’s important to remember that God is a consuming fire (see Hebrews 12:29) who wants to burn a flame in us, that won’t go out.

However, this is easier said than done because everyday we’re bombarded with distractions. We’re tempted to loose focus of Him which then makes it easier to be consumed by things other than Him. When this takes place, it’s not hard to be half-baked for God and thus, we miss out on what He can do through us.

This is exactly what happened in the book of Hosea. God‘s people were distracted from Him as they were connecting with people that were wrong and being led to worship false gods. Notice what God says in reference to this situation.

The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake!‬

Hosea‬ ‭7:8

For God’s people, it was the distractions of mingling with wrong people that caused them to be half-baked to God.

Today, it’s even more intense. From our phones, social media, the news, politics, and drama it’s easy to find ourselves convoluted and confused with things that zap our faith. Furthermore, this is tricky is because these things aren’t necessarily bad in and of themselves. In fact, they help us in our every day lives but, with God not being number one it can cause us to be focused on things that take our passion for God away. Then, before we know it, we’re distant from Jesus.

I don’t know about you, but I need Jesus! We all need Jesus today!

He’s the healer of our soul and the savior of our lives. Without Him, life is a half-baked experience that leaves the soul aching for something more.

This is why I encourage you, be consumed by the love of God. Don’t settle for a half-baked experience but rather give Him everything you got and see what He can do. Life is too short to hold back from Him because the meaning of life is found through Him. Therefore, let Jesus be your number one passion! Let Jesus be the center of your life! Let Jesus be the fire that burns a flame in you that won’t go out!

So, how do we do this?

I believe the secret is, we give God the dry places of our lives, so His fire lights us up. Just like an oven cooking food, it has to have either power or gas to give the heat it needs to bake something all the way through.

God needs what we have to bake us all the way through!

What can you give God today? What’s a dry area you could give as an offering for His fire to consume you?

Whatever this could be in your life, please give it to God and see what He could do. Because His healing, His peace and His purpose will be found when we are fully consumed by Him. Conversely, being half-baked will leave us not healed and stunted in our faith.

So today is the day! Move forward and refuse to be half-baked. God is great and His goodness is running after you!

Have a great day week and the best is yet to come,

PD
