Refocus
Well here we are, in the middle of the first month of 2021 and it feels like so much has already happened. In fact, in the last twelve months, more has happened than we can comprehend in this moment. It’s going to take us some time to really process what we’ve come through. This is because our focus has been scrambled with all that has gone on, that it’s been difficult to hone in and process what has taken place.
However, this is why it’s great to start the year off with prayer and fasting, as we seek God and Refocus our attention on him!!
But this in itself is a challenge because studies show that the average attention span is eight seconds! Yes you read that right, eight seconds. What’s even crazier is that, a goldfish has an attention span of nine seconds. So yeah, a goldfish has a longer attention span than us.
But this makes sense because so much is coming at us all the time that we are overstimulated, which is impacting our ability to focus. On top of this, you factor how the enemy wants to do everything he can to sway us away from God, which causes the daily grind of who and what will get our attention.
So what are you focused on?
Is it American politics, your money, your job, your goals, social media, your family, being right or something else?
In this climate, it’s easy to not only be focused on these things but also to be fueled by them. Meaning, we debate it, argue it, get mad about it, divide relationships because of it and make emotional decisions in the moment. I wonder, have you been here?
I think so many individuals, friendships and families have experienced this and it’s sad because we’re called to more.
You see, when our focus is out of order, our perspective gets out of order too. When this happens, we see our points, and our way and this often leads to long term impact to what matters most. Our faith in God and those around us.
So, when we pray and fast, it’s helps us refocus our priorities and align ourselves to what what matters most. When our focus is right, our perspective is right and that causes to invest in our faith and the relationships we have. Our marriages, our kids, our friends our, our church, our community and more. When we do this, our sense of peace and value go up because our focus is not only on what matters most, but also on what last for eternity.
Now, this doesn’t mean that we can’t focus on our finances, our goals and even our political convictions. These things are important and should be a part of our lives; however, they don’t have to control our lives. This is because when we let God lead the way our focus is right, and our lives will be in order. Not perfect, but in order and this leads to us being healthy.
This is what we do when we Refocus!
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.“
Matthew 6:33
“Jesus replied, ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”
Matthew 22:37-38
Notice, we seek God first by loving God and loving people!
Isn’t this simple? But isn’t this hard?
Yes to both which is why we must Refocus right now and gets ourselves ready for what’s next.
God is ready to do amazing things through your life and through your family. He’s ready to show you what he’s prepared for you; therefore, our job is to stay focused on him so that we receive it and live it out.
So I encourage you, lay down the distractions and put aside the petty arguments that are happening right now in our country. We are called to more and allow yourself to Refocus on God. Love him mans love people, period!
This our moment because God didn’t give us our family, our friends and our lives to argue over temporal things. He called to make a difference for eternity! So move forward and Refocus, the time is now and we’re called to more!
Happy fasting and the best is yet to come!
Love you all and believe in you!
