So What Do We Do Now?
No doubt this election has caused so much tension, stress, and division. The ideals on so many levels are diametrically opposed to one another, thus the dividing lines are more defined than ever before. Then, on top of this, so much has happened this year. It feels like five years rolled into one and what’s crazy, it’s not over yet. For me, I think, what’s next? But here we are, standing in a position to move forward as a nation moreover as the people of God.
This is important because it doesn’t matter if our candidate won or not. It doesn’t matter if we feel joy or feel anguish in this moment. The word of God gives us the next steps to take no matter what’s going on around us and no matter who has won the election. This is because, our faith is rooted in Jesus and He is the rock upon which we build our lives, both for now and generations to come.
So what do we do now?
Paul gave us clear steps to take in moments like these. Check it out!
“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2
Notice, we are to pray for ALL people! ALL means ALL. Someone today is nervous and is upset at what has happened in this election. Someone today has people in their lives that frustrate them, annoy them, and challenge them. Someone today can make a decision to love or to shut down and yet, no matter our scenario, we are to pray for ALL people!
This means we pray for those we don’t like, we didn’t vote for and those we don’t understand. Furthermore, we are to pray and intercede on their behalf and then, GIVE THANKS for them!
How many like to do this?
So many of us don’t do this because our emotions rule what we do or don’t do but that’s not the way we live. We choose to live by faith through Jesus; therefore, the word of God dictates what we do!
Wow, we need this right now!!!
Then, we are to pray for kings or presidents, and others who are in authority. This is our position toward any leader we have. Notice, we do this so we can live peaceful and quiet lives.
It’s so easy to not pray for those we don’t like or those we don’t agree with. But God tells us to do something different, as He desires us to pray for all people and for any leader in office. This means right now no matter where we stand in this election or in our country’s direction, our actions are based through the Word of God. Otherwise, we’ll be tossed around by the moment with no stability and purpose. Our job has always been and always will be, to bring people to Jesus!
So what do we do now?
We pray, pray, pray and pray! We pray the way God tells us to in these verses and then we find someone we can show Jesus to and do it. We must be about the Kingdom of God and that must be NOW! Like it was told to Esther “who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14.
We’re here for more than we know, more than we see, and more than we feel. We’re here for Jesus and to share Jesus with people! Why, because Jesus is looking to seek and save the lost.
Let’s do this with Him and let’s take these next steps and walk out our faith right now!
Love you all and the best is yet to come,
PD
