The Table of Brotherhood
On Friday, June 5th, Sumer and I were able to be a part of a peaceful protest in our city. It was powerful to see white, black, and brown people coming together to stand in solidarity for justice and the fair treatment of black and brown people. The unity was evident and it gave me greater hope, that change will happen.
This event also reminded of Jesus and The Table of Brotherhood.
This is important because, in Jesus, we are one. In fact, in the Spirit of God, there is no distinction meaning, while He made us unique and different colors, the Spirit of God sees something more. Therefore, we are to both celebrate our heritage and culture, while also uniting under the Grace of God!
Jesus has made us family through what he did on the cross. His sacrifice made way for all people to be a part of his family. Right now, heaven is full of people from all over the world, and they’re worshiping God around the throne.
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.”
Revelation 7:9
Notice, around the throne of God are people from everywhere. So heaven is diverse and for eternity, we will be together! I can’t wait to be there, how about you?
However, what we’re seeing right now is nothing like this.
Our country is divided and the tension is rising for substantive and much needed change. The cry of injustice is being heard louder than I can remember and that’s a good thing as the time for unity is now!
Moreover, it’s time for unity among God’s people. The Table of Brotherhood has been born from the love of God. It has been built through the sacrifice of Jesus and it’s the only place, where we can be healed, and unite for both now and eternity. This table is beyond our ability and beyond our background because it’s solely based on the Grace of God.
So the invitation has been sent, what will we reply?
In fact, Jesus is so passionate about this, that he is knocking on the door of our hearts, seeing what we’ll do. He is coming to our house but we must let him in.
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Revelation 3:20
Notice, Jesus wants to have dinner with us. Meaning, He wants fellowship or to hang out. He just wants us, that’s all! When He has our heart, He can do anything through us. Our challenge is to consistently open our heart and let Him in.
However, too many of us are hearing the knocking, but not opening the door. Maybe we’re too busy to open. Maybe we want to isolate. Maybe we’re hiding. Maybe we’re saying no. But no matter our response, He’s knocking, so it’s up to us to let Him in.
When we open the door, our place at the Table is revealed, and everything can change. Our life gets better, our world gets bigger and our lives reflect the love of God.
At The Table of Brotherhood, there’s no racism or class. There’s no belittling or demeaning and there’s no pecking order to see who’s number one. Simply put, everyone is someone to Jesus and when I receive that, I give that away.
My security becomes based on who He is in me, verses what others think about me. It’s from this place that I’m free to love others, to build up others, to stand alongside others and to unite with others. Oh yes, The Table of Brotherhood changes everything, so I encourage you, let Jesus in your house.
He’s knocking on the door. He’s reaching for our heart and he’s waiting for us to say yes.
With all we’re seeing and all that we’re facing, now is the time. No day can we waisted on being hardhearted, religiously dead, political bantering and stubborn toward the heart of God. We must do better, be better and sit at The Table of Brotherhood!
This is where Jesus is and this is where the family of God is. Will you join? Will you take your place? Will you allow Jesus to do more in you?
The answer is up to us!
So today, please choose to open your heart to Jesus. Please open your heart to others. We don’t need more points, we need to make a difference. We don’t need more arguments on social media, we need unity. We don’t need to divide over imperfect politics, we need to bond through God.
We need to sit at The Table of Brotherhood and be changed together, worship together and the change the world together.
Love you and the best is yet to come!
