Good Guy
We love the Good Guy in movies. It’s the theme upon which great movies are centered on, leaving us cheering for the good and rooting against the bad. This pattern plays out continually as it stirs drama and leaves us wanting more as we seek to be entertained. Even now with the Marvel movies, superheroes hitting the big screen have produced billions of dollars in revenue as we seek to see heroes in action. We want the Good Guys to win and when they don’t, it doesn’t feel right. Think about how this ideology has formed itself in our hearts to the point that our default believes the Good Guy will win. This epic battle is seen as light verse darkness, good versus evil and purity versus corruption. The very idea of Good Guys winning makes us feel safe and secure that today and tomorrow are going to be ok.
So who planted this desire for the Good Guy in our hearts?
The very idea comes from God because He is good! His goodness endures forever (Psalms 52:1) and every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17). I believe we want the Good Guy to win because we want God in our lives. We know that light is better than darkness. We know that truth is better than lies, and we know that purity is better than corruption. Our hearts yearn for what is right as we seek to have purpose and to be made whole. All over the world, people are reaching for good with the hope that their lives will work out. The very desire of our soul is to have peace and purpose; therefore, so many are looking for this. This is why Jesus is the Light of the World! He’s the Giver of all good things and He makes our lives new. He’s the Good Guy everyone is looking for and He’s ready to do good today.
The Bible shares in Acts 10:38
“And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
Acts 10:38
Notice, Jesus goes about doing good by healing and setting people free. The Good Guy gives goodness away as a sign that he’s God’s Son. Because of this, we must hold firm that God is the Good Guy and our enemy is the bad guy. Too many times God gets blamed for the bad that happens and then ignored when the good happens. I believe this is a trick that keeps us from understanding Him in a complete way. If I believe that God is causing evil or punishing people with it, then my view of Him is limited and fearful. Yet, if I see Him as my protector and the giver of good things, my heart opens in expectation to believe He’s for me. This changes the trajectory of my hope for my present and for my future. I’m not living by chance, but rather I’m living on purpose and Jesus is the Good Guy keeping me every step of the way.
People often ask, If God is good, then why do bad things happen to good or innocent people?
This question is needed as we process tragedy, evil and injustice, since we’ve all seen it directly or indirectly. Yet, we must know who is doing these things and what God wants to do about it. All people have a common enemy and his agenda is to kill, steal and destroy no matter who we are. He uses hurt people to hurt people as he rips away innocence and derails lives. He’s the father of lies and he causes chaos, drama, pain and more. Jesus has come to give us life and life more abundantly (John 10:10). This necessary question shouldn’t take us away from God but rather it should propel us towards God.
The Good Guy is dismantling the works of the devil, setting people free all over the world. Our job is to believe this and share it with others. God wants to use you! We are a part of this movement. His agenda involves you and me as we are called to do something, so people see the Good Guy win.
Jesus is reaching for everyone and He welcomes all into His family. People desperately need to know this Jesus and we are His reps on the earth. People are waiting for the Good Guy to win in their hearts which means, we give Him away. Our faith isn’t just about what we get, but rather who we give away and He is Jesus. Receive the Good Guy today. Expect good things to happen to you because of who He is. Believe that nothing is impossible and let His love heal your soul. Let negativity and doubt dissipate from your heart and believe that something good is going to happen to you today.
One of the things I say to myself every day is, I expect good things to happen to me. This reminds me of who I serve and what my expectation of Him is in my life. This simple statement that takes less than 30 seconds to say, helps shape my mind and heart to believe, the Good Guy is moving toward me.
What step could you take today?
If it’s saying something like me, or reciting your favorite verse, or listening to your favorite song, do it! It will help you more than you know. Jesus is ready to be good to you, so receive it and then give it away. Remember, so many are desperately wanting the Good Guy to win in their life and Jesus is that man!
I pray you have hope today and that His goodness floods your soul.
Have a great week and the best is yet to come,
PD
