Thanksgiving’s Soul Food

I love Thanksgiving! It’s a great time to be with family and friends and to enjoy great food. In fact, I don’t know about you, but I love the leftovers. There is something about Thanksgiving that goes beyond that one day as it can last several days with good times and epic food.

Thanksgiving’s Soul Food for my house includes, collard greens, sweet potatoes, mac-n-cheese and homemade rolls. Can I get a witness?
You can’t say no to these items when they’re cooked right.

Maybe Thanksgiving’s Soul Food is different for you, but no matter what I think, we all have items that stick out to us as our favorite.

However, Thanksgiving’s Soul Food goes far beyond what we eat. It’s deeper than that, as it feeds the soul and builds up our faith.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.”

Psalms 100:4

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Notice Thanksgiving is an act of our faith and it leads us into the presence of God. It is also God’s will for us to be Thankful in all things. Wow! How many of us are still working on that?

This is a process as we navigate ourselves and others through life yet Thanksgiving’s Soul Food empowers us in Jesus.

However, we must remember that we choose to be Thankful. It’s not a magic feeling, nor is it God making us be thankful. It’s our choice as we determine our perspective.

Have you noticed how easy it is to be negative? In fact, it’s our natural default most of the time. This shows up as we are quick to share negative moments with others. We even use social media to spread the word. It seems so many times we feed on the negative but God is wanting us to feed on Thanksgiving’s Soul Food.

When we feed on this…things will happen in our lives.

First, we will enter into God’s presence. This is where we have peace, joy and life. It’s where we all want to be, so we must choose being thankful.

Second, we obey God’s will for us when we give thanks. This is huge because in God’s will comes protection, provision and clarity to our lives. This is what we all want, so we must choose to be thankful.

This comes down to us choosing everyday to feed on Thanksgiving’s Soul Food as a way of life. It’s making up our minds to see things as possibilities and opportunities for God to move. It’s our perspective that dictates so much, which is why we must be thankful.

God intended us to live this as a lifestyle and not as a once a year meal!

However, no matter where you find yourself today, you can begin to feed on Thanksgiving’s Soul Food by giving Him praise for what He’s done (make a list of these things). By reminding yourself where He brought you from. By seeing His goodness over the years and by recognizing He’s been with you the whole time. These simple yet profound steps can bring great blessings to your life and faith.

It’s these moments that can give us all the courage to move forward and take our next step. It’s this perspective that can take a problem and see a miracle.

When we do this, anything is possible because we are letting God have His place in us as we feed on Thanksgiving’s Soul Food.

What are you feeding on today?

I pray we all continue or start to feed on Thanksgiving’s Soul Food because we’ll be encouraged, we’ll be empowered, and we’ll be enlarged to do God’s plan for our lives.

Have a great holiday and may Jesus do amazing things in you and in your family.

The best is yet to come!
PD
