Face of a Lion

Have you ever seen a lion up close! I had the privilege of seeing one in Africa. It was awesome in strength, in beauty and in power. As it was behind a chain-link fence, I got to get up as close as I could and be safe seeing it’s massive size and the confidence that it exuded. After all, it is the king of the jungle and being that close to one I could see he knew who he was. His mane was massive and beautiful. His face looked worn yet strong. And in that moment I realized why the Lion is used as a type for Jesus. He even growled at some of the people by me as some were trying to rile him up and when he did, it put fear in all of us. Yes, the legend of the lion is true and when you see one you will know this for yourself.

This speaks to a truth we have from Scripture. Jesus, is the lion of the tribe of Judah and He is our conquering King. His beauty and power is unparalleled . He is lovely and strong. He is humble and mighty. He is the ruler and He is the servant at the same time. Jesus is majestic and He has all the power to change our lives!

Therefore, because of Jesus we can have the face of a lion in our lives!

This speaks of our confidence, our strength, and our willingness to stare down fear. The face of a lion describes a position of authority and a willingness to conquer that which is trying to conquer us. To me, fear is one of the greatest things we have to defeat in our lives. This is why it’s so important to embrace the face of a lion in our spiritual walk with God. To declare that fear will bow its knee and that comes from our decision to face it and defeat it.

What are you afraid of?

It’s OK to admit it, since we all deal with it. In fact, when we admit it is when we can defeat it. The face of a lion never has to lie or never has to be in denial, he knows who he is. It’s the same for you and me. We don’t have to live in denial and we don’t have to pretend, but rather we can stare down fear and defeat it!

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

2 Timothy 1:7

Notice, God does not give fear but He empowers us to defeat fear. I believe it’s our position to arise and decide we will be defeated or will we defeat that which stands in our way. I think that fear stands in our way; therefore, we must choose to have the face of a lion.

I encourage you today, face your fear. Even write it down so you can articulate what you’re feeling. Then, begin to pray this verse that I’ve mentioned and other verses that speak against fear. Did you know, the Bible says “fear not 365 times” That’s one time for every day in the year and we have the tools in Jesus to whip all forms of fear. It may not be easy, and it may be the greatest challenge of our lives but we can do it through God.

Choose to have the face of a lion. Choose to defeat fear. Choose to chase it down and refuse to be its prisoner. Jesus wants to set us free and we have a part to play. It’s our decision to determine if we have the face of a lion. I’m doing this right now in my life and I believe you can too.

I encourage you, be strong, look at your potential, and see what God wants to do today because the best is yet to come.

I pray that any form of fear is crushed in your life and that you are free in Jesus. I pray that you would have the face of a lion every single day and you would be who God wants you to be.

Have a great day and may the Lord richly bless you in every way.
