Pray, Don’t Stop, Repeat

Have you ever repeated something over and over again and you knew it wasn’t the best for you?

If this is true, it most likely comes in the form of eating. Choosing Doritos over vegetables, eating ice cream instead of fruit, and going to McDonald’s instead of a healthy meal. Have you been there before? But it’s easy to repeat these habits over and over again and we know it’s not the best for us. It seems to me that repeating something that’s not good for us is easier than repeating something that is good for us.

For example, I can easily eat ice cream every day versus working out every day. This is a part of our human condition as we tend to lean toward those things that comfort us verses the things that are good for us. This is not to be critical, it is just an observation of myself and others as we navigate life. Yes, repeating something can be a powerful thing as we choose to do it over and over again.

Therefore, what if we would repeat prayer over and over again?

I think the results would be astounding. The struggle is, it’s difficult to pray and repeat it daily. Life gets in the way, schedules get busy, and our focus can get scattered. But the Bible promises us, that when we pray and don’t stop God begins to move.

“9. And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Luke 11:9-10

Notice how Jesus said to pray and don’t quit! I call this “Pray, don’t stop, repeat.” Please don’t underestimate your prayers and your consistency in prayer.

What things are you praying about?

All of us are praying about something. All of us are reaching for God in an area of our lives. I believe this is inherent as we know our limits and we’re reaching for something more. Yet, to have God intervene requires us to pray. It’s the way he said it up as prayer connects us to God and what he has for us.

Right now we are in 21 days of prayer and I encourage you to join us. Remember, there is great power when we repeat something. Which is why I believe when we “pray, don’t stop, repeat” great things happen!

To do this I believe we need a plan. Here are some quick thoughts regarding this.

Have a set time. This could be in the shower, in the car, in a private room or other. It really doesn’t matter where it is, the important thing is that you have a set time. When we have a set time for something we tend to repeat it better. Put this in your calendar and mark it down as important. This simple step can empower you and me to pray on repeat and see God’s power revealed. We also have weekly prayer on Wednesday’s at City Church, from 7am-8am. Join us!

Have specific things you pray about. It helps when we are specific with our prayer request. Write down specific things. Pray over them daily as this helps remind you what you’re praying about and when God does it, you cross it off. I believe Jesus responds to specific things. We don’t have to be ambiguous with our prayers because He knows every detail of our lives. When we are specific we can chart Him doing what we’re asking. This will build our faith and empower us to pray and repeat it daily.

Ask others to pray with you. This is huge! When other people are involved with our prayers and when we are involved with their prayers, great things happen. I encourage you, don’t be prideful which leads to isolation but rather reach out and let others come alongside you. When we ask others for help it gives us more strength, more power and more encouragement. God intended for us to do life with others and that includes prayer. Let other people know what you’re praying about. Ask them to pray with you and believe that together God is moving on your request.

No matter what you’re facing today, God can do something about it and prayer is how God gets to us. I strongly encourage you, “Pray, don’t stop, repeat.”

This is our moment and this is our time to seek Him with all of our heart and when we do, we will find Him! I love all the things you repeat in your life, let prayer be one of them. And when we do this, we will see God do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think.

Have a great week and may God richly bless you and do miracles through you and for you.
