Steak and Milkshakes

There are two things that are great to eat, especially when prepared right – and that is steak and milkshakes! Can I get a witness? There is something about a great steak that doesn’t need any sauce and a milkshake that is blended just right that marks the spot.

Are you hungry yet?

These two foods are a part of American culture, as we think about steak houses and old-fashioned diners that make homemade milkshakes. In some ways, this is from an era gone by, but it still speaks to us with memories and good food. This draws our hearts into fond moments that last a lifetime.

However, there are steaks and milkshakes in the word of God, too.

Both of these are a part of the balanced diet that empowers us to be healthy and strong. In fact, if our spiritual diet is not balanced, it can lead to error in our walks with God. This means no spiritual fruit, and God wants us to have evidence of spiritual growth. Yet too many Christ-followers don’t understand this concept of Steak and Milkshakes and end up in pointless debates, dead-end arguments and proving points but missing hearts. God has called us into more than this. He has called us to make a difference and to rightly divide the Word of God with a pure heart that loves God and loves people.

This is our moment to shine so our good works are seen for others to glorify God.

First, we have Milkshakes.

“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment.”

1 Peter 2:2

Notice we are to crave pure spiritual milk. This milk is not for a phase only, but rather a lifetime as we grow in our faith. There is also a “full experience of salvation” to which we should aspire, and this requires God’s Milkshake in our lives. This pure milk of the Word strengthens us in His Word, empowers us in the Spirit and fills us with His knowledge. How vital this is for our growth! We must crave it and cry out for it. We must we hunger and thirst for Him, and we shall be filled.

Are you craving His Milkshakes today?

Second, we have Steaks.

“Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.”

Hebrews 5:14

Notice, Steaks help us to mature in our faith. But this maturing isn’t just knowledge; this is where many Christ followers get stuck. This meat empowers us to have skill in our discernment between right and wrong. We are empowered to know God up close and personal. It’s the open door into His heart, His ways and His voice that changes us from the inside out. Knowledge alone can be just facts. But when knowledge is combined with a heavenly exchange, great things happen. The adventure of a lifetime is getting to know God and learn from Him.

Are you getting your protein?

It’s my hope that we reach up for His Steaks and Milkshakes and we get all we can from Him. That we would grow in His love and in His word, producing fruit in our lives. Please don’t settle for an imbalanced diet; don’t get stuck choosing between milk and meat. We need both daily.

Today is the day He has made; therefore, we must shine for Him.

I pray your diet is balanced and that you enjoy His Steak and Milkshakes daily.

May God bless you and empower more than ever before,
PD
