Thriller
If you’re from my generation, when we hear “Thriller” we think of Michael Jackson. This song had a great routine, a great video and a great star. It left a definite mark with it’s uniqueness. Thriller is a generational song that will be talked about for decades to come.
Do you think of God as a Thriller?
While I don’t know your answer, I’m confident that too many people think He’s not, so they end up going elsewhere for a thrill. This idea comes from religion that takes out the joy, love and power of God, removing His presence from our reality. One of the great misconceptions of Christianity is that it’s boring. This can’t be further from the truth.
In fact, the greatest adventure we can have is to walk in this life hand-in-hand with Jesus and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The thrill of our lives is to know Him and experience Him. Nothing compares to the octane of His love. Now don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of thrills we can have, like getting married, having a baby, going on a dream vacation, achieving goals and having success. These things and more are amazing, as they are a part of who we are; however, above them all is the Savior of our souls.
“You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done.”
Psalms 92:4
One definition of the word Thriller is an exciting contest or experience. I love this because it confirms what this psalmist said of His God. He’s an experience!
He is the ultimate Thriller of our souls, giving us tastes of Heaven (Hebrews 6:5) as He heals and restarts our lives. His love is life-changing, and His voice speaks to our hearts. His power is real and electric, moving in us to reveal who He is. Jesus is alive, and because of this, we can feel Him, hear Him and know Him in real ways.
I encourage you to remember something He has done for you and then allow joy to flood you, followed by the thrill of His mercy and grace. It’s my conviction that we should burn with excitement for our God. Our Christian experience is not to be mundane, routine or normal because nothing about Him is. He is exciting, powerful, supernatural and all-together lovely. Our Christian life can get better and better (Proverbs 4:18) as we know Him more completely.
What is your Thriller today?
While we should enjoy and be thrilled by the amazing moments in our lives, we can also experience the greatest Thriller of our souls: Jesus!
There is no high, no person, no amount of money, no status, no amount of followers on social media, no place and no thing that compares to our God. He’s matchless in all His ways, He’s indescribable in ability, He’s loving, He’s wonderful to behold and He’s a friend who sticks closer than a brother. He’s the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He’s the Beginning and the End. All these things, He is to you!
Let Him have you today. Find complete freedom by giving your life to Him. Find complete rest by letting go and letting God. Find complete purpose by accepting what He has for you.
Let Jesus be your Thriller.
Have a great week as the best is yet to come,
PD
