Hilltop
There is something special about standing on a hilltop and seeing the surroundings from an elevated place! It can make the molehills and valleys look small and provide a view that makes the trek up the hill worth it. These moments are powerful. They shape our perspective and give us clear purpose.
This is a significant moment because so often it’s the molehills and valleys that complicate the purpose for our lives. I believe that Jesus is simple and has clear plans for each of us. Confusion, however, is easily inflicted upon us as we walk through life. Disappointments, hurt feelings, and setbacks blur the picture of who we are, making the challenges in front of us appear overwhelming. But God is greater and His agenda can defeat anything we face!
The hilltop of Christ gives purpose and power to our lives. It declares victory and puts the molehills and valleys in their place. Instead of being overwhelmed and defeated by them, we overwhelm and defeat them. In the process, we keep our focus on the hilltop! When we adopt this perspective, we receive more clarity in who we are (our identity) and our purpose in life (our destiny).
“You are the light of the world like a city on a Hilltop that cannot be hidden.”
Matthew 5:14
Notice two things in this verse for us:
First, we are the light of the world. This is powerful and challenging as our destiny is tied to our identity. Our identity is bright, giving and sharing the hope of Jesus with everyone. When we let Jesus touch us and move in our hearts, He naturally shines through us. That’s it! We are not called to debate or make a point but rather to shine and make a difference. His light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot stop it. Think about this truth; God moves through His light and the enemy lives in darkness. This means we have to let Jesus touch the darkness in us so that we expose the darkness around us.
How bright is your light?
Second, we are to be on the hilltop. He wants to elevate our perspective so we see life through His view. When the molehills or valleys come, we are positioned to step through them with peace. Our light is to be bright and visible. People should see our faith in action. We don’t worship, give or pray to be seen, but we need to be seen worshiping, giving and praying. Our light should always shine. It’s important to let people see our character and acts of love and kindness in a variety of public places. In fact, we must pursue this behavior so that His light shines boldly through us. When we embrace this approach, what was once oppressive to us is now flipped upside down. On the hilltop, we look down on it! Our shame, guilt, habits, bondage, struggles and more are beneath us because our identity and destiny is wrapped up in Christ Jesus.
Are you on His hilltop?
I encourage you to ascend the hill and take your place for God. Be what He has called you to be and shine big and brave for His cause. Your imperfections and your inadequacies are great venues for His light to shine. Your position can reflect His grace and mercy so move now! Don’t wait until you are feeling, looking, or sounding better or when everything is calm, peaceful, or chill. Begin today because all He needs is you!
I look forward to seeing you on the hilltop! Have a great week and the best is yet to come,
PD
