Fulfilling the Promise
Promises are a significant part of our lives. Here are a few promises we make on a regular basis: we promise to give our spouse all of our love and support; we promise to provide a bright future for our children; and we promise our highest form of loyalty to our best friends. These promises have the power to liberate us or imprison us, and everyone has experienced both sides of promises.
Because promises are always connected to another person, there is always the possibility that the promise may never be fulfilled. Unfortunately, this element of a promise can shut down hearts. Those who reject the possibility in a promise often lead lives of distrust and isolation. From this position, it’s easy to project this type of experience onto God. In doing so, we begin to believe He will not come through. He will not fulfill His promises.
But I tell you, He is fulfilling His promise! God holds firm to His promises in the timing and in the way He knows is best for every aspect of our lives. Our responsibility is to give Him the opportunity to do great things. We have to let go of stress, fear and drama in exchange for a fulfilled life. Notice I didn’t say it will all be perfect or that we will get everything we want when we want it. However, He will lead us through the disappointments and through the hardships. He will give us the desires of our hearts when we let Him have our hearts. This is when we have peace that is beyond our ability. This is where we triumph over the rat race of life to have what He has promised!
“Deep in your hearts you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed.”
Joshua 23:14
This verse is true today! He can’t fail! What broken promise has lead you to question God’s faithfulness?
We have to trust that He is fulfilling the promise in His timing, in His way and in His big picture. Resist the temptation to “unplug” God from your life. Resist the temptation to pursue the promise your own way. This is a short-sided and flawed approach in our developing relationship with God. Most of the time we are thinking of one or a few aspects of our dilemma while God knows it all. He wants to fulfill all of it!
This topic of promises speaks to the healing power of Jesus Christ. He is healing our broken hearts and mending our minds so that we are in a right place with Him and with others. I encourage you to believe that every promise for your life will come to pass! Your marriage, your kids, your health, your career, your friends and more are under the touch of God. Don’t give up, don’t give in; your Christ is great and He is saying to you, I’m fulfilling the promise in your life!
This is our moment to believe! It’s our moment to remember that He takes what we have and does miracles with it. So if you have a broken heart, give it to Him, and He will heal it. If you have a broken marriage, give it Him, and He will make it new. Give Him what you have, and watch Him fulfill the promise!
Have a great week and the best is yet to come!
