RAGS AND RESUMES

Resumes are a huge part of our professional lives! We convey value, worth, and need so that we receive a job of our choice. Some say that writing them is an art form and when done right, they can open doors of opportunity.

This is the way of the job market but it’s not the way of Christ’s Kingdom!

Religion uses resumes to impress and prove merit for authority or position. It uses them to prove points and gain influence while many times reaching for approval and acceptance. This effort is far too common! It produces environments of performance and posturing with one another so that many deflect from core issues while blocking the healing Jesus can give.

Everyone is tempted to go this way as it’s easier and natural to what we are used to. We also gravitate to this because we can control what we show, preferring the untouched image portrayed religiously. But this doesn’t impress Jesus!

“The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

Invariably our hearts are touched and changed when we give Him our rags!

He prefers rags as they force us to glorify Him. They force us to depend on His grace and mercy while creating in us a heart of humility and worship. This produces a reckless passion for God as we pursue Him and overcome the opinions of others.

This is how we are promoted! It’s in our relationship with God, the secret place of our hearts. This is where we give Him our rags as we face the truth and reality of ourselves. It’s our commitment to this that will determine our depth and trajectory with Jesus!

What will you choose, rags or resumes?

I encourage you to resist religion and embrace relationship. It’s better as He gives life change and healing to our lives.

Always remember, it’s the rags that receive His favor and promotion. It’s the rags that gives us intimacy with Christ and openness with others! It’s the rags that receive strength to forgive others and ourselves! It’s the rags that gives us moments of a lifetime!

This is our chance to be better on a daily basis! Go for it!

The best is yet to come!
