What is our purpose in life?

This question has been asked for generations as people everywhere are seeking purpose, fulfillment and meaning. There is an inherent sense in all of us that understands there is more!

So what is the answer to this question?

I don’t claim to know the answer for us specifically but I do believe that there is ubiquitous purpose we all share as Christ Followers.

Two of these insights are revealed in Psalms 84:10.

“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

Psalms 84:10

The first purpose we share as Christ Followers is to be touched and changed by His Presence.

Notice the psalmist cries out that His Presence is where He wanted to be, it was the desire of his heart. This may seem basic but the reality is, God’s Presence is NOT to be debated but rather experienced! We have access to His tangible touch which transcends our intellect and transforms our soul and heart making us more like Him.

When we become more like Him, we become better in our functions of life and the people around us benefit too. I call this the link to our legacy because what we do for others and what we give to others will last forever.

What are you giving to those around you? The answer to this question is what you will pass down to the generations following you.

The second purpose we share as Christ Followers is to be connected in the House of the Lord.

Notice the Psalmist desires the House of God. He desires this to the point that he will be whatever is needed. This speaks to a need we ALL have, which is the need for community. We were created to have relationships with others. Yet this is one of the most challenging elements in our lives and some of us resist it.

We all desire a place where everybody knows our name as it gives community with shared values. This is a huge link to our purpose being discovered along with being fulfilled in our lives. Being connected in the House of God is supernatural as Christ works in us weekly. This is why we are tempted to isolate and not connect because something great happens in us.

I am convinced that the plan of God is beyond our expectations! Will we take these two steps to discover what it is?

Receive courage and strength to overcome fears, distrust and isolation as you discover the great plans He has for you.

I encourage you to allow 2014 to be year of His Presence and a year of being connected to others because the best is yet to come.

Have a great week and see you Sunday at 9:30 and 11:30 as we love, build and lead.

Something great is happening!
