The Side Effects of God’s Love
What are the side effects of God’s Love?
This question may seem odd yet it connects to our current culture because with all the medicines that exist, they come with side effects. In fact commercials will hype up a certain medicine and then give all the things that could go wrong. So if medicines can produce side effects, what about God’s Love? I’m convinced that His Love will shine through us in ways that reflect His Grace and Mercy daily, yet Christians along with churches struggle to do this practically and we are missing out!
The side effects of His Love are not a plague to avoid but rather an opportunity to embrace that breeds change personally and beyond. Notice what the Love of God does:
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
1 John 4:18 (NKJV)
When you and I receive His Love we begin the journey of being fear free, which empowers us to freely give to others. This is crucial because God touches people through us. We are the method He uses to touch humanity! We are His prize commodity to expanding His Kingdom! So these side effects empower us to be this and to do this.
Creativity is a side effect to give us new ideas, to think out of the box which empowers us to reach people. We are not to force people into our religion, we are to lead them to Jesus! His Love inspires creativity. He is exciting so why would we be boring? Let’s be creative and reach out!
Authenticity is what Jesus is and His Love will help us be the same. We are not to perform our faith, we are to live out our faith in real way. The supernatural is not always sensational and this speaks to our daily lives. I believe people are reaching out and up for help, they want hope and they want the real thing! God is real and His Love tangibly changes lives and hearts forever, our job is to be authentic in our faith in Christ!
Relevancy is another side effect we are to have. I’m not referring to fads and styles, I’m talking about being relevant with peoples hearts. True relevance is being able to connect with others, to hear their hearts and to give them the answer that they need. It’s cool to be hip but its greater to be relevant with others!
His Love enables us to do something in our lifetime! His Love is for us to show others Christ! Do you have these side effects working in your life today? Are you creative, are you authentic and are you relevant? It’s time to pull back the curtains of fear and let faith fill our soul. Life is too short to live with regret; we can do something great for God! I’m determined to lead my life this way and to Pastor City Church this way because what matters is that people come to Jesus!
